I am a primary art teacher based in Aberdeenshire. I trained at Edinburgh College of Art as a jeweller - then returned to do a Masters in illustration. In 2009 I discovered Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen, where I have been experimenting with silk screenprinting in my spare time ever since. I decided I wanted to create an online visual portfolio of my work.

  • Throughout my career I have exhibited my work nationally and my work is sold in various locations in Aberdeenshire.
  • I welcome commission work in both illustration and printmaking. If you have any queries please email me at jen@jengoudie.co.uk

Themes and techniques

My work covers various themes; from the 1950s role of a woman in the domestic household to the local landscape in Aberdeenshire. I am also interested in observational drawing. Some of my life drawings have also been included on the website. I like to use soft pencil, linseed oil, oil pastels and a putty rubber when drawing. I enjoy creating varying thickness of line, smudging and smearing lines to create areas of texture and tone.

Artistic influences

My artistic influences are very varied. I love 1950s textile prints, the drawings of David Hockney, paintings by William Scott, printed textiles by Rachael Howard, and Tove Jansson’s illustrations. I am also inspired by artists such as Tracy Emin and jeweller Grainne Morton.

Teaching primary children I am often impressed with the talent and creativity that exists in young people today. Their enthusiasm and curiosity inspires me to develop and experiment with my own artwork.
